Position Descriptions

Drivers (All Islands)

We are looking for drivers that want an exciting opportunity with a local company with 70 years of history here in Hawaii. Great potential for growth with a long-lasting future!

Requirements:

  • Minimum age – 21 years old
  • Must bring current driver’s license and a current traffic abstract (for type 3 licenses) or Hawaii Driver History (for CDL drivers) for interviews. Those without driving history in Hawaii must obtain records from their respective states/territories.
  • Good communication skills

General Manager (Tours & Transportation)

This position is responsible for providing direction, strategic planning, leadership and support to a broad range of operational divisions. This individual works with the Manager/Supervisors to develop and promote an environment focused on safety and a high level of Service Excellence. This position must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the FMCSR (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To direct and develop the Oahu daily operations to include, but not limited to; legislative, statutory, regulatory, contractual and other compliance mandates related to the operations
  • Handles employee/customer complaints/issues to resolution
  • Builds relationships with staff, departments, vendors and clients
  • Meets with Managers/Supervisors to encourage active participation in setting goals and objectives
    • Does cost analysis of expenses to ensure efficient use of funds
    • Creates and works within constraints of budgets
    • Authorizes use of departmental funds
  • Able to perform all of the duties of each division Manager; fill temporarily any subordinate duty, as necessary
  • Motivates and disciplines staff when necessary
    • Works with Managers/Supervisors in disciplinary situations

  • Bachelor’s degree from four year college or university or commensurate experience equivalent (5 years minimum in a supervisory capacity in transportation) to this specific position.
  • Valid drivers license and access to a properly insured vehicle (Must be willing to upgrade to a CDL)

Magician’s Assistant (Magic of Polynesia)

This position is responsible for assisting Magician on-stage with various magic illusions and assisting in several other areas of the production. This is a part-time evening position (5:30pm – 8:30pm).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Stage Manager to plan and coordinate show changes and the set-up and breakdown of the various illusions
    • Coordinate the time and set-up of illusions for maximum effect
    • Learn various time tables for lighting, sound system and illusion set up
  • Check with Stage Manager at beginning of shift for any last minute changes in show and set-up

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • The position requires assistant to work in tight spaces so height of female candidate needs to be less than 5 feet 5 inches and slim build.
  • Able to squeeze into tight spaces (boxes) for extended periods of time
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
  • Able to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other team members
  • Previous experience preferred but will train with proper attitude

Bar Cashier (Magic of Polynesia)

This position is responsible for the collection of payments of drinks served at the show. This individual is also responsible for accurately reconciling payments in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare end of day cash receipts recap
    • Balance cash to recap
    • Prepare deposit

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
  • Able to work various office machines – cash register, calculator
  • Able to work a flexible shift, weekends and holidays
  • Must have a customer service background
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with accuracy and efficiency

Captain / Supervisor

This position is responsible for operating the vessel in a professional manner while underway and assures the safety and comfort of all passengers onboard. This individual works with the cruise director to provide the best possible product and assist management in the application of company policies and procedures and in the delivery of quality service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Captain of all vessels and supervisor of PT captains, 1st mates
    • Directives are received from Vessels Maintenance Manager and Operations Manager
  • Meet with Manager for instructions and discusses any problems that need to be addressed
  • Check condition of mooring lines and exterior of vessel
  • Review ships logs and ensure all entries are properly documented
  • Communicate with 1st mate for updates and obtain his report on overall condition of vessel
  • Confirm weather, sea conditions and consult with CD / Manager on board for any changes and/or recommendations
  • Departure:
    • Prepare for Departure – working with deckhands (via radio), release of mooring lines, etc.
    • Ensure safe departure – watching for harbor traffic, constantly on the lookout for other vessels during sail
    • Keep a look out for changing weather conditions
  • Return to Pier
    • Maneuver vessel safely back to harbor – watching for harbor traffic
    • Keep in contact with deckhands to ensure safely moored on back to pier
    • Once safely docked assist with other departments as needed for safe debarkation of passengers
  • Report to Maintenance Manager for scheduled maintenance days
    • Work with maintenance crew on daily pre-flights and projects
  • Attended all training, inspections, meetings
  • Other duties as needed and/or assigned

Requirements:

  • Hold a 100 ton marine licenses with 3 issues or more (15 years)
  • 5 years or more experience in captaining a vessel in local waters
  • General knowledge of diesel engines
  • CPR / First Aide certified w/intention to attain defibrillator certification within 6 months of hire
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Posses a current ocean operator’s license with tonnage equal to or exceeding the vessel’s tonnage
  • Some experience in the marine industry, mechanical, electrical and hydraulics
  • Working knowledge of the Hawaiian Island waters and its navigable waterways
  • Japanese / English speaking – fluent

Deckhand / Crew

This position is responsible for assisting the Captains and First Mate in maintaining the safety of all passengers, daily and nightly upkeep of vessel. This position also ensures the delivery of the highest quality of customer service and “ALOHA” to all passengers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist and perform emergency procedures in case of fire, abandon shop, flooding, anchoring, loss of power and man over board
    • Review and become familiar with the Safety Training Folder
    • Checking of all safety equipment
  • Annual Inspection:
    • Assist Captains and Maintenance Dept. with the Coast Guard Annual Inspection of vessel engines, generators, safety equipment and perform emergency sea drill exercise
  • Daily Duties
    • Provide basic safety information when needed
    • Sweeping, mopping and scrubbing deck
    • Cleaning of windows
    • Maintain and cleaning of all deck dept. equipment
  • This position also ensures the delivery of the highest quality of customer service and “Aloha” to all guests
  • Participate in all training sessions
  • Upkeep of restrooms, inventory supplies
  • Attend all meetings
  • Any and all additional duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent; or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of the Hawaiian Island
  • Able to perform simple math functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide)

Licensed First Mate

This position is the designated Safety Officer for the vessel. This individual is the immediate supervisor of all the crew in the event of any ship related emergencies and duties relating to vessel movement to ensure safe navigation. This position works with the Captain to ensure the safe operations of the vessel while underway and assures the safety and comfort of all passengers on board.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with Senior Deckhand in training the staff in safety procedures using the Safety Training Folders
  • Assists Captains and Maintenance Department with the Coast Guard Annual Inspection of vessel engines, generators, safety equipment and perform emergency sea drill exercises
  • Ensures that company policies and procedures are followed
    • As needed gives directions and disciplines staff in a fair and professional manner
  • Presents a “Welcome” address for passengers on the safety aspects of vessel
  • Meets with Department Heads on a regular basis (formally and informally)
  • Assists in various departments when short staffed
  • Knows and Understands Coast Guard Compliance requirements
    • Performs and Conducts emergency Sea Drill Exercises
  • Daily Duties:
    • Check maintenance log and switching of generators if required
    • Preflight Bridge: Bleeding water from horn, check instrument panel, turn on proper switches, check to see that UHF and VHF portable radios are charged ad operational, maintaining cleanliness of radios
      • Check pre-flight log (PDL) for communications / information
      • Check weather, sea conditions and harbor traffic via land line or VHF radio to establish route and itinerary for the sail. DO NOT ASSUME THE WEATHER WITHOUT CHECKING
      • In the event of inclement weather or conditions beyond our control, the relocating of vessels is the responsibility of the captains (mates and maintenance will assist)
      • Do a visual inspection of all engines and generators; ensure they are operable before sail, as well as starting & securing of engines during vessel operations.
        • Report and log any discrepancies/problems in engines and/or generators
      • Monitor fresh and salt water pumps and holding tanks to maintain adequate usage and to prevent water shortages or over flows
      • Maintain land lines to ensure all communication lines are operational
      • Assist with boarding and greeting of passengers in a professional manner
    • Assist Captain when underway, docking, undocking, through tight maneuvers and in any emergency situation
      • Relieve schedule Captains on breaks
    • Attend all pre-sail briefings
    • Attend weekly management meetings
    • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Must posses a certified Coast Guard 100 ton endorsed Captains License and FCC license
  • Must have basic knowledge of marine engines, generators, pump systems, hydraulics and radio operation
  • Working knowledge of the Hawaiian Island waters and its navigable waterways
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent; or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Able to speak effectively before groups of customers or team members
  • Basic use of computer applications (format letters, reports, data entry to basic forms, use of email)

Japanese Narrator / Crew / Cashier

This position is multi-purposed – it covers assisting the divers, crew as well as the point of sale on the vessel. Individual is responsible for the enjoyment, comfort, safety and participation of all foreign passengers. This position also ensures the delivery of the highest quality of customer excellence and “ALOHA” to all passengers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interpreter for our foreign guests/passengers groups
  • Interpret all procedures and safety precaution for our foreign national guests:
    • Give detailed explanation on safety procedures
      • Use of flotation devices in case of an emergency
      • Instructions on various activities offered
      • Assist Captain / divers in use of equipment as needed
      • Assisting passengers with equipment
  • Daily duties:
    • Check counts for the day and orders lunches for group
    • Food Service
    • Review scheduling for arrivals / departures
    • Attend pre-sail meeting to learn of any last minute changes
    • Properly greet and seat passengers
    • Servicing assigned area
      • Selling products on board ship
      • Operating cash register
      • Balancing till at end of day
      • Checking all cash receipts
    • Encouraging passengers to participate in activities
    • Delivery of the “ALOHA” Spirit
    • Clean up of vessel – post cruise
  • This position also ensures the delivery of the highest quality of customer service and “Aloha to all our guests

  • Japanese / English speaking preferred
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds

Diver – Instructor

The purpose of this position is assist/teach guest to enjoy the diving experience in a controlled safe environment. Individuals will distribute and maintain equipment and deliver excellent service standards set by company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Independently teach individuals in use of diving equipment
    • Assist in putting on scuba gear – tanks, masks, suits, etc.
    • Instruct individuals in use of equipment
    • Instruct individuals in safety precautions, signals, time limits, etc.
  • Answer all questions and inquires in a professional manner
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures on vessel – able to narrate safety features and emergency procedures to passengers
  • Assist with equipment maintenance
    • Set up of equipment ensure all tanks are full, masks – cleaned, suits in proper repair
    • Breakdown – proper storage of equipment, refilling of tanks, rinsing / cleaning of suits
  • Assist with vessel maintenance as needed
  • Attend all meetings, briefings, training
  • Other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • PADI – Master Diver / Instructor certified
  • Ass’t Instructor certification
  • Lifeguard certified
  • Able to speak Japanese/English fluently
  • CPR/FA certified
  • 2 – 3 years experience

  • Able to work a flexible shift
  • Push, pull, lift 50 pounds and on occasion 70 pounds
